Fèis Instruments — Rent to Buy Scheme
We are pleased to announce that the Fèis is now able to run a rent-to-buy scheme for musical instruments. We have built up a bank of instruments which we use during Fèis week, and for evening classes throughout the year. So if you have a young person in a music class, you can rent the instrument for use at home, and after an agreed number of payments, own your own instrument. The Fèis will then use the income from the scheme to renew our stock of instruments. If you are interested in the scheme, please get in touch with the Fèis Office on 01871 810 088 or feisbharraigh@googlemail.com
Barrafest 2010
Barrafest 2010 was again a great success! Even antics of CalMac could not stop the party. Hitler may not have made it, but those who did had the best party ever! Friday night kicked off with Uist Pipe Band playing with our own pipe and drum group. They were great! Thank you to Euan and the pipe band for all their help. The night continued with Trail West, the Black Rock Ceilidh Band, Nollie and Co. Face the West and the Raggaels! "It was a brilliant night!"
Saturday night continued with The Raggaels, Whiskey River Duo, Shindig, The Vatersay Boys and Manran. It was an amazing night! The bands were great and it has been a wonderful weekend!
A big thank you to everyone who helped put together the two nights - organisers, volunteers, emergency services, bands, and technical staff. See you all in 2011!
Thank you also to Marine Harvest for their marvellous donation of fresh Salmon. It was a tasty addition to the food tent, and very popular.
Dates for Barrafest 2011 are Friday 29th and Saturday 30 July 2011.

Mod Trip 2009
Last October a group representing Fèis Bharraigh took part in the MOD in Oban. 16 primary age children travelled from Barra in awful weather to take part in the MOD's Under 13 Fiddle competitions. All the Children played very well and enjoyed the trip. MOD Judge David Boag commented on the huge commitment made by the children travelling from the Western Isles to play, and that he was particularly glad to see that traditional fiddle music was being developed in the Hebrides. Well done to all who took part!
Fèis Trips in 2010
Fèis Rois Senior Fèis takes place on 11th to the 15th of October 2010. Fèis Rois is a residential Fèis and is a fantastic opportunity for young people from S1 — S6 to get together and learn skills in traditional music, Gaelic language, song, dance and drama. They have places for 200 young people and everyone is welcome whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced player. In 2010 they have some exciting new workshops, including: sound engineering, radio production, as well as most instruments, plus Drama and Shinty.
The week culminates with the participants' concert on Friday night when you have the opportunity to show off everything you have learned throughout the week to an appreciative audience of Fèis supporters. Fèis Bharraigh hopes to take a group of teenagers to Fèis Rois in October this year. It is sure to be an exciting trip, so please express your interest in taking part by calling the Fèis office on 01871 810088 or by email to feisbharraigh@gmail.com
