History
Fèis Bharraigh begun in 1981 when Fr.Colin MacInnes, along with the piper Angus MacDonald, came up with the idea to promote, encourage, foster and develop the practice and study of the Gaelic language, literature, music, drama and culture in the Islands of Barra and Vatersay.
Fèis Bharraigh is comprised of a week of local events, games, concerts and dances. What makes it unique is its emphasis on the area's language, culture and identity, and the opportunity it gave to young people to give expression to these.
Since its inception in 1981 it has gone on to become a movement, now with 43 other feisean taking place every year throughout Scotland.
